Peer Training

How to become a peer counsellor:

To complete the training, use the CIS platform to register online for the (free) optional subject “Peer Training” between 29/09/2022 and 06/10/2022. You will receive a confirmation e-mail as soon as the registration deadline has passed. That’s it, you’re all set!

Do I need to have prior knowledge?

No, no matter what you are studying or which courses you are taking, there is no prior knowledge necessary to complete the peer training and become a peer counsellor.

Content of the Training

The training is divided into modules: the training teaches participants counselling-specific conversation skills and informs them on topics such as mental health, addiction, stress management and conflict resolution. Modules concerning stalking & mobbing, diversity & gender as well as legal frameworks are also an integral part of the training. The module self-reflection helps students to get to know their own limits, which constitutes an important aspect of the field of work. The training programme consists of approximately 20 teaching units.

Your training is concluded with a final seminar in which a possible case is presented that students reflect upon in a professional manner. Students who successfully complete the course receive a certificate.

And after that?

Once you have finished your training at the end of the semester, you can get started right away. In the beginning, an experienced peer will be by your side to train you. After a training period, you can start counselling on your own.
